{"id":50199,"date":"2024-04-19T17:59:07","date_gmt":"2024-04-19T15:59:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rplt.it\/?p=50199"},"modified":"2024-04-19T17:59:07","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T15:59:07","slug":"italy-digital-nomads-visa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rplt.it\/en\/italy-digital-nomads-visa\/","title":{"rendered":"Update | Italy now has a digital nomads visa: here is what you need to know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Digital Nomads in Italy \u2013 The Decree on visa has finally been published <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On April 4 Italy published a long-awaited <strong>Decree outlining<\/strong> the procedures and requirements to obtain a visa to enter, stay, and work the country as a digital nomad.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens from <strong>non-EU countries<\/strong> engaged in <strong>highly qualified remote work<\/strong>, either independently or for a foreign company, can obtain <strong>the visa<\/strong> as \u201cdigital nomads\u201d or \u201cremote workers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some useful definitions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Highly qualified work activity<\/strong> refers to the activity performed by foreigners who prove to be highly-skilled people with a university or college degree (minimum 3 years) from an accredited institution, an accredited professional license, or accredited superior professional experience.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>digital nomad<\/strong> is defined as a foreigner who carries out <strong>self-employed work<\/strong> <strong>activity<\/strong> through the use of technological tools enabling remote work.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>remote worker<\/strong> is defined as a foreigner who, through the use of technological tools enabling remote work, carries out <strong>subordinate or collaborative work activities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Article 3 of the new decree establishes <strong>the requirements for obtaining<\/strong> <strong>the visa<\/strong> and <strong>the<\/strong> related <strong>residence permit:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>minimum annual income<\/strong> from lawful sources not less than three times the minimum level required for exemption from participation in health expenses: that is, around \u20ac28,000<\/li>\n<li><strong>Health insurance<\/strong> for medical care and hospitalization valid in Italy for the entire period of stay;<\/li>\n<li>Adequate <strong>documentation<\/strong> regarding <strong>housing arrangements<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Previous experience of at least 6 months<\/strong> in the field of work activity to be carried out as a digital nomad or remote worker;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Employment contract or collaboration contract or <\/strong>(if remote workers<strong>) the related binding offer<\/strong> for the performance of the highly qualified work activity;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Declaration<\/strong> signed by the employer or client \u2013 accompanied by a copy of the identity document \u2013 attesting to the <strong>absence of criminal <em>convictions<\/em><\/strong>, in the last 5 years, for offenses referred to the TUI (including, aiding illegal immigration to Italy and illegal emigration from Italy to other States).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Those who wish to apply for the digital nomad visa should follow the following steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They should apply at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ambasciata.net\/1c.php?c=Italia\"><strong>Italian Consulate<\/strong><\/a> which is competent for the geographical area where they have residency.<\/li>\n<li>Before going to the Italian Consulate, they should obtain and complete <strong>the\u00a0visa application form <\/strong>(attention: each Consular office might have its own unique application form) with their full name, as it appears on the passport. Once the visa application form is complete, they do not have to sign it as it must be signed before an Italian Consular Visa Officer.<\/li>\n<li>Then they should <strong>book an appointment <\/strong>with the Italian Consulate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The timing:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After obtaining the Visa, entry into Italy is possible. <strong>Within 8 days<\/strong> of entry, the <strong>residence permit<\/strong> must be requested.
