Art exhibition “Shots: Urgenze visive, racconti incompleti”

RPLT’s exhibition spaces are ready to host a new exhibition. This time the guest is an Italian artist with an international background: Mattia Cavanna. Cavanna has, in fact, a cosmopolitan biography, whose openness to multiple cultural and visual influences is well reflected in his artistic research. With his figurative painting, but with powerfully contemporary accents, Cavanna will inhabit the spaces of RPLT for the coming season.

Mattia Cavanna was born in Novara, but his personal and professional trajectory has led him to live and train in Paris, Oxford, Turin, Rome, Washington D.C. and Milan. A geographical and human path that has contributed to building a curious and open view of the world. An engineering graduate from Milan Polytechnic, Cavanna has been involved in research and development for years, tackling complex challenges between technological innovation and advanced design. Yet, alongside the rigour of his profession, he has always cultivated another dimension, more intimate and visceral: that of drawing and oil painting. His is a double creative life that does not generate contradiction, but synergy. His approach to art is, after all, akin to that of the engineering project: analytical and precise, but also capable of capturing the unexpected, the fragile instant that becomes a story.

Cavanna has exhibited in Washington D.C. and Rome, and illustrated the book Women on Top of the World (Quercus Books), exploring the theme of female sexuality with elegance and respect, through evocative plates. In 2022, she received the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts Award, confirming the quality of her work in the international arena.

With the project SHOTS, Cavanna proposes a series of paintings that span landscapes, everyday scenes and portraits. They are micro-stories captured with rapid and precise strokes, conveying the essence of a moment without getting lost in superfluous details. His stylistic signature can be recognised in elegant colours and a narrative intelligence that emerges from each canvas: Cavanna never paints for pure exercise, but to tell a story.

He is currently working on a new art project dedicated to the world of prisons, in collaboration with various Italian penitentiary institutions. A work that combines art with the social dimension and restores an ethical function to the creative gesture, capable of generating reflection and openness. Mattia Cavanna’s poetics thus moves between technique and inspiration, between logic and sensitivity, building a fascinating bridge between engineering and art: two worlds that, in his work, are not mutually exclusive but mutually nourishing.
